Stender, Culver Announces Bus Driver Training Grant for Danville Area School District

HARRISBURG – Rep. Michael Stender (R-Montour/Northumberland) and Sen. Lynda Culver (R-Columbia/Montour/Northumberland/Snyder/Luzerne) announced today that Danville Area School District received a $30,000 grant from PennDOT’s School Bus Safety Grant Program.

This funding is part of a $1.1 million investment to pay for the training of more than 430 new school bus drivers, including commercial driver’s license (CDL) training; trainee wages; and testing and permit fees, across Pennsylvania.

“This is a great investment into Danville Area School District that will allow the district to train and hire new bus drivers, increasing the total number of qualified school bus drivers in the area,” said Stender. “This will improve school bus safety and ensure students have reliable transportation across the district.”

"Reliable transportation is essential to helping students get to school safely each day, and that starts with having qualified school bus drivers behind the wheel," said Culver. "This grant will help Danville Area School District recruit and train new drivers while strengthening the safety and reliability families count on throughout the school year."

Grants from the program can be used to pay for education, training, and other costs related to an individual earning his or her commercial learner's permit, commercial driver's license or school bus endorsement for the purpose of driving a school bus in Pennsylvania. They can also promote and increase school bus safety, education and training.
