Stender Announces Grant for Affordable Housing in Northumberland County
June 12, 2026
HARRISBURG – Rep. Michael Stender (R-Montour/Northumberland) announced that the Housing Authority of Northumberland County, located in Milton, has been awarded $250,000 from the Pennsylvania Housing Affordability and Rehabilitation Enhancement (PHARE) program.
This funding will be used for the development of five one-bedroom apartments for seniors (62+) with a preference for qualifying veterans or veterans’ widows with incomes at or below 50% Area Median Income (AMI) for Northumberland County. These apartments will be one-story, approximately 750 square feet in size with on-site laundry and off-street parking. Four of the apartments will meet ADA visitable requirements, with one apartment to be fully ADA accessible.
“This is great news for the veterans and seniors of Northumberland County,” said Stender. “The funding will be a major boost to this crucial affordable housing project, helping ensure that long time residents have a safe, stable and comfortable place to call home. With this support, more seniors will be able to remain in the communities they grew up in, stay connected to familiar surroundings and continue contributing to their towns across Northumberland.”
PHARE is part of the Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency and receives funds from two sources, the Marcellus Shale Impact Fee and Realty Transfer Taxes.
