HARRISBURG – Twenty-four fire and emergency medical services (EMS) companies in the 108th District were awarded grant funding support through the 2023-24 Pennsylvania Fire Company and Emergency Medical Services Grant Program, Rep. Michael Stender (R-Northumberland/Montour) announced today.

“As a former career and volunteer firefighter, it is an honor to see this state funding help our local fire and EMS companies in the 108th District,” said Stender. “Our local first responders ensure the safety and security of our families, and these grant dollars will contribute to their continued life-saving operations.”

Following is a list of local organizations that received grants and the amount of the awards:

• East End Fire Company - $15,590.33.
• Friendship Fire Company No. 1 - $14,423.20.
• Goodwill Hose Company No. 4 - $13,450.59.
• Liberty Township Volunteer Fire Company - $13,450.59.
• Valley Township Fire Company - $13,645.11.
• Washington Fire and Hose Co. 2 - $13,450.59.
• Washingtonville Volunteer Fire Company - $14,034.16.
• Americus Hose Company (EMS) - $15,000.
• Americus Hose Company (Fire) - $14,423.20.
• East Sunbury Hose Company 1 - $14,617.72.
• Friendship Hose Company - $14,228.68.
• Good Will Hose Company Inc. - $13,061.55.
• Milton Fire Department Inc. (Fire) - $16,951.99.
• Milton Fire Department Inc. (EMS) - $15,000.
• Northumberland Fire Company 1 - $14,228.68.
• Northumberland Hook and Ladder Company - $13,839.63.
• Point Township Fire Company - $14,034.16.
• Rescue Hose Company No. 1 - $14,423.20.
• Southside Fire Company No. 1 - $13,450.59.
• Stonington Volunteer Fire Company - $14,228.68.
• Sunbury Steam Fire Engine Company #No.1 - $13,061.55.
• Upper Augusta Volunteer Fire Company - $13,839.63.
• Warrior Run Ambulance - $15,000.
• Warrior Run Area Fire Department - $16,951.99.

Projects and programs eligible for funding include facility upgrades, equipment purchases, debt reduction, training and certification, education and public outreach, and recruitment and retention efforts. Additionally, fire companies were permitted to apply for constructions savings accounts for the purposes of new facility construction.

The ongoing funding program was created by the General Assembly. All grants are generated from slot machine gaming proceeds, and not General Fund tax revenue. The program is administered by the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency with the application process handled through the Office of the State Fire Commissioner (OSFC). The funding amounts are contingent on the recipients filing their grant agreements with OSFC.
