HARRISBURG - Rep. Michael Stender (R-Northumberland/Montour) voted “no” on the $45.55 billion Fiscal Year 2023-24 state budget that was voted on by the House.

“Unfortunately, it appears this budget stalemate will continue at least through September, and I am extremely disappointed in the way this process has played out,” said Stender. “This budget overall is a 6% increase from last year’s budget and at a time when inflation is only getting worse, the last thing Pennsylvanians need is a tax hike, which this increase in spending will ultimately come to.”

The budget bill now awaits approval from the Senate. The next scheduled session day for the Senate is Sept. 18.

In other news, Stender noted his “yes” vote on House Bill 1100, which expands the income limit for the Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program.

“To make more Pennsylvania seniors and people with disabilities eligible for additional property tax and rent relief. House Bill 1100 would increase income limits for the Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program from $35,000 for homeowners and renters to $45,000 and increase the amount each recipient can receive from a maximum of $650 to $1,000.”

“I believe this was one of the more productive legislative measures we agreed upon recently and will help our low-income seniors.”
The measure is pending the governor’s signature to become law.
